Introduction to the FIFA 15 English Premier League Guide

Since we published the Barclays Premier League guide, several new cards have been released. In order to keep our choices updated, we decided this revised version which includes the Winter Transfers and the Winter Upgrades.

Here are the criteria we followed in this guide:

  • Only Gold Players
    • In this guide we didn’t consider silver or bronze players. Most players assume that they won’t be a better option than gold players, so to simplify the guide’s analysis we didn’t include them. In the future we may come to publish guides exclusively talking about these categories.
  • Only Regular Players
    • In this guide we didn’t consider In Forms (IF). They’re extremely expensive and in most cases are not considered good value for money. They should only be used by players with generous budgets, that already have the best team possible and that want small upgrades.
    • Transferred and Upgraded Players
    • Players that have been transferred to English Premier League clubs or that have been reviewed (UP) during the Winter were included in this guide.

  • Only Original Attributes
    • In this guide we didn’t consider changes made on a players performance when applying training or chemistry styles cards.
  • Position analysis
    • To make the comprehension of this guide easier we divided the players in nine distinct groups in order of their original position: Goalkeeper (GK), centre backs (CB), right backs (RB and RWB), left backs (LB and LWB), centre defensive midfielders (CDM) centre midfielders (CM and CAM), right midfielders (RM, RW and RF), left midfielders (LM, LW and LF) and forwards (CF and ST).
  • Prices at the date of publication of the guide
    • In the chapter, where FIFA 15 Ultimate Team EPL teams are suggested, the prices stated are the ones from the date of the guide’s publication: March 2015. We used the minimum and maximum prices fixed by EA.

The choice for the best English Premier League goalkeeper on FIFA 15 Ultimate team is not easy, especially now that De Gea is also an option for top-squads.

In our opinion, the position is in good hands (literally) if you choose Thibaut Courtois or Hugo Lloris. The two goalkeepers are equivalent on the most important attributes, but the Belgian is better in the other attributes. He is also 11 cm taller which makes all the difference.

De Gea, who was upgraded, is the one with best reflexes and diving, but in the other attributes he is not as good as the other two. We recommend him for those who frequently pass the ball to the goalkeeper.

When talking about cheapest goalkeepers our suggestion is Asmir Begovic. Only a few EPL goalkeepers have better reflexes and diving than him. Besides, he’s also the second tallest of them all, which takes out any doubt for those who still had any. For those who don’t want to choose him because of the difficulty of having good chemistry links with the centre back, Simon Mignolet is a good alternative.

The new cards of Koscielny, Gabriel and Can Can are now good choices for those who are looking for fast players.

       Nedum Onuoha 83 QPR England

Matija Nastasić 74 Manchester City Serbia
Kolo Touré 74 Liverpool Ivory Coast
Winston Reid 74 West Ham Australia

Kompany is our number one choice for this position. Fast and with good defending and attacking attributes, the Belgian is the most expensive of all centre backs in the English Premier League.

Koscielny and Mangala are the centre backs that come closest to Kompany’s quality. Now that Koscielny is upgraded, he is now without question the number two. Jan Vertonghen and Marcos Rojo are also good options.

FUT 15 English Premier League Right Backs (RB and RWB)

This was one of the positions which was more improved during the Winter Upgrades. It is clear now that Zabaleta is a top right back as well as Coleman is now part of the best right backs shortlist.

    HIGHEST RATED RIGHT BACKS
Pablo Zabaleta 83 Manchester City Argentina
Pablo Zabaleta 82 Manchester City Argentina
       Branislav Ivanović 81 Chelsea Serbia
Bacary Sagna 80 Manchester City France
       Mathieu Debuchy 80 Arsenal France

Séamus Coleman 78 Everton Republic of Ireland
       Kyle Walker 77 Tottenham England
       Rafael 77 Manchester United Brazil
       Glen Johnson 76 Liverpool England

Zabaleta and Coleman defence was improved in one point but Ivanovic is still untouchable in this raking.

    RIGHT BACKS WITH BEST DEFENDING
       Branislav Ivanović 86 Chelsea Serbia
Pablo Zabaleta 84 Manchester City Argentina
Pablo Zabaleta 83 Manchester City Argentina
Bacary Sagna 81 Manchester City France
Séamus Coleman 79 Everton Republic of Ireland

       Kyle Walker 76 Tottenham England
       Rafael 76 Manchester United Brazil
Àngel Rangel 76 Swansea City Spain
       Glen Johnson 75 Liverpool England
       Daryl Janmaat 74 Newcastle Netherlands

If you are looking for fast right backs but you don’t want Kyle Walker, now you have a good alternative: Nathaniel Clyne.

    RIGHT BACKS WITH BEST PACE
       Kyle Walker 91 Tottenham England
       Nathaniel Clyne 86 Southampton England
       Rafael 83 Manchester United Brazil
Séamus Coleman 83 Everton Republic of Ireland
Séamus Coleman 81 Everton Republic of Ireland
       Glen Johnson 79 Liverpool England
       Mathieu Debuchy 76 Arsenal France
       Daryl Janmaat 76 Newcastle Netherlands
Pablo Zabaleta 75 Manchester City Argentina
Pablo Zabaleta 74 Manchester City Argentina
Bacary Sagna 74 Manchester City France

Pablo Zabaleta is the highest rated right back but once again, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s the best choice for this position. In our opinion him and Ivanović are the right choices for players that don’t use full backs to attack.

On the other hand there’s Kyle Walker. He has fantastic pace, good dribbling, passing and his high attacking work rate makes him a good player for those that see full backs as second wingers.

For those that search for an intermediate solution, in other words, a player that defends and attacks fairly, we advise Séamus Coleman. He is a very balanced athlete.

       José Enrique 77 Liverpool Spain
       Monreal 76 Arsenal Spain
Luke Shaw 75 Manchester United England

Azpilicueta is now the left back with best defensive skills.

Luke Shaw 75 Manchester United England

Moreno and Clichy are still the fastest left backs.

       Azpilicueta 79 Chelsea Spain
       Monreal 78 Arsenal Spain
       Davide Santon 78 Newcastle Italy
       Leighton Baines 77 Everton England

Filipe Luis is with no question the best left back playing in the Barclays Premier League. In our opinion, Azpilicueta is now the best alternative to the Brazilian player. He is more complete than Clichy.

Leighton Baines and Alberto Moreno are valid alternatives to these three players but for different reasons. The first besides being extremely balanced he is also a good crosser. He’s a good choice for more attacking teams. What is lacking to him, Moreno has a lot. He is the fastest left back, something so important in FUT 15. However, don’t ask much more that that from him.

Of all the remaining players, Kieran Gibbs is our cheapest choice. He doesn’t have the same efficiency as the others we referred too but he’s fast enough to cause some offensive damage and possesses reasonable defending.

Youssouf Mulumbu 80 West Brom RD Congo
       Joey Barton 80 QPR England

Ramires is our favourite because he possess a much appreciated cocktail of work rate, pace and stamina which allows him to be everywhere. He is also the fastest and the CDM with highest accumulated score. He is weak physically, but if you have played with him in previous years, you will be pleasantly surprised. He is one of the players who most benefited from the fitness changes introduced this year.

There are still very good options that offer a cheap price but still good quality wise, like Matic. He got an upgrade but he is still far from Ramires’ quality. For those who want an element that offer defensive solidity to the team, Fernando is a very interesting choice. For those that search for someone that can roam to further zones around the pitch, Tioté is a player to considered.

Di Maria is still the most interesting player in the Barclays Premier League Midfield. He is levelled with the best players at various attributes, like passing, dribbling, pace and long shots.

Another essential player is Yaya Touré, in large parts because of his amazing strength and stamina. He is a very balanced player but his new medium-medium work rate doesn’t allow him to give everything he has to give to the team. In our opinion, he was the best FIFA player in the past few years, but he is not any more. Obviously, he is still a wonderful player but if you were used to playing with him, you will notice a considerable difference.

Ozil, Mata, Fábregas and Oscar are cheaper players that can perform well their roles as centre midfielders. After the Winter upgrades, Fàbregas became our favourite. Thanks to the prices range, Mata is now our cheapest choice.

Aléxis Sánchez and Cuadrado are clearly the most indicated players to occupy this position in a team without budget restraints. Our preference goes toward the Colombian player that even though has worse shooting can be faster and help the defence more. However, if you are looking for someone for this position with good shooting, Sánchez may be a better choice. Willian is the third name in our list and Navas the fourth.

From the most popular there’s also James Milner. That even though has good passing, he is the slowest of the whole league. We discourage this purchase.

For those that can’t pay so many coins there’s a player that doesn’t diverge far from the best: Kevin Mirallas. The Belgian is as fast as Sánchez, has almost better dribbling than Navas and passes much better than the Chilean player. Besides having a work rate adjusted to the position he occupies he is still has a 4 star week foot and 4 star skill moves.

Hazard’s price is prohibits him from many budgets, proving the worth of the player. He’s without a doubt the best Barclays Premier League left winger. He’s the fastest one and the best dribbler. He possesses a series of other developed attributes such as balance, agility, acceleration and ball control. We only discourage him for teams that will need him defending, given his work rate high/low. David Silva is also a wonderful player but not for this position. He is a top-quality player, especially in ball control and passing, but his pace is not enough to convince us.

For those that don’t want to pay as many coins for the Belgian, Christian Eriksen is the most complete player and for that reason, our cheapest choice. Nasri and Cazorla are not fast enough and André Schürrle has bad passing stats.

One of the most used players in the BPL is Podolski. Even though he’s the one that has the best shooting, his passing and dribbling doesn’t convince us.

The upgrades clarified, once for all, who are the best BPL striker: Aguero and Diego Costa. The Manchester City player has a slight advantage due to his better pace and shooting. Even though he’s not the best at any of the basic attributes, no other BPL forward surpasses him in ball control, acceleration and balance.

Choosing the best Barclays Premier League forward is a bit subjective because it depends on everyone’s style of play. It is always missing something to the best alternatives to Aguero and Diego Costa: Van Persie is slow; Falcão isn’t as good as in the previous year now that heading bug was fixed; Wayne Rooney plays better as CF or even CAM than as a striker; and Sturridge has bad passing.

Far from these strikers quality, Lukaku is our cheapest choice. Him and Benteke may cause a lot of damage on the opponents defence.

    English Premier League Team Suggestions

A lot of people think that this is the most important part of the guide. It’s not. The thing that is really important to know is how to choose players based on their role and style of play that fits each player. The team suggestions that follow are simple graphic indicators of what we wrote previously. They should serve merely as orientation because it’s impossible to build a team that fits everyone. They depend on various factors we don’t know such as budget, formation, style of play and player preferences.

To try and explore the needs of the maximum player as possible we suggest three teams with different budgets and formations: 4-1-2-1-2 with unlimited budget, 4-3-3 with medium budget and 4-4-2 with low budget.

    • Summary
    • The choice for this team’s players was based on analysis made in the previous chapters.

Thibaut Courtois is without question the best Barclays Premier League goalkeeper. The new card of De Gea seems quite interesting, but he is not good enough to take the Lloris place in the bench.

Kompany keeps on being the boss of the defensive foursome for all and a few more reasons. On his side, Koscielny is now untouchable. Kyle Walker and Filipe Luis are the fullbacks but with new alternatives: Azpilicueta is the number two in the left side while Zabaleta may be used in the first squad if you want someone with good defensive skills.

Although Yaya is originally a CM in FUT 15, the CDM position works like a charm for him. He’s no longer so much of a box-to-box player now with the new medium-medium work rate. If you need someone with these characteristics, don’t hesitate to choose Ramires as well. For the next position, Di Maria is our natural choice. Mata is not our choice for the bench anymore. The new card of Fàbregas is slightly better.

The only new addiction to the starting eleven is Cuadrado. In our opinion he is even better than the new card of Aléxis Sánchez. Eden Hazard is so brilliant there’s just no chance he could stay out of the left midfield.

If your budget allows you, of course, Agüero and Diego Costa are the obvious choices for the attack line, specially now that both cards were upgraded. The biggest surprise, however, is maybe how Sturridge now takes Falcão or Robin Van Persie’s spot on the bench, but the truth is that the young lad’s characteristics are just more appropriate to the FIFA 15 game play style.

Once all the players reach maximum individual chemistry you can go without a manager for your squad. They’ll be of no use and still spend contracts.

    • Summary
    • The choice for this team’s players was based on analysis made in the previous chapters.

At the goal, the new card of Joe Hart is the chosen one. Begovic, our second choice, is an authentic bargain that will actually stand shoulder to shoulder against popular goalkeepers such as Petr Cech and Tim Howard.

In the defence, Mangala is definitely worth every penny. By his side, another player that was originally from the Liga Portuguesa: Marcos Rojo. Coleman and Azpilicueta, both with new cards, complete our defending foursome.

Now more than ever, the centre midfield position has to be Matic’s. The serbian builds up the first barrier between your goal line and the opponent, making his defensiveness and physicality count. Coutinho, which still has maximum individual chemistry even playing as a CAM, and Mata complete the midfield. The Spanish player his now cheap enough to be included in this squad.

While Mirallas beats the concurrence by the right wing, Eriksen or Nasri could equally fill with quality the opposite side.

Over the attack line, Lukaku or Benteke are excellent choices. They’re very similar to each other and are good for their pace, strength and resistance mainly.

If you still have some room in your budget, Kyle Walker, Koscielny and Cuadrado are players that would improve this squad a lot.

    • Summary
    • The choice for this team’s players was based on analysis made in the previous chapters.

Nothing has changed in the defence. The exception is Nathaniel Clyne, promoted from silver players. He is now the second choice for right-back.

On the midfield, Tioté and Bojan complete each other well. The first one is kind of a smaller and more defensive version of Touré, and the second is an irreverent player. Lamela and Arnautovic fill the wings in order to assist Bony and Zárate, both at new clubs.

    1. I have been playing FIFA since too long now , and have top teams for all 5 leagues (except Ronaldo Messi obvio ??). 4-1-2-1-2 is the best poss formation acc to me , coz it blends technique , passing and lots of speed. But respected Admin , I do think that though Ramires is low on stats , he is the best CDM for PL , given that the team u suggested have many Chelsea players , thereby making chem even better. And if someone is looking for team with hell of a speed , i think Sturridge is quite good too. He is faster than costa , much cheaper and i can easily score in first 5 game minutes with aguero and sturridge’s speed. I do keep Costa as sub , though.

And it may sound weird , but i like placing hazard as ST after first half , as i switch strategy to attacking , coz he dribbles like hell. I am so comfy with playing hazard that i can make him dribble 2-3 defenders easily. Do u think i should try for any IF now ??

    2. hi i am basicly broke! i was wondering, what is the fastest way of getting coins? also, are packs worth it? which one is most likly to get 99 ronaldo?! 😉

      1. Forget packs. They are a waste of money/coins. Trading is the best way to make money: buy low, sell higher. Don’t forget to redeem the coins boost from EASFC Catalogue, for example.

    3. Hi Rodrigo,
what do you think about my BPL team?
      De Gea
      Koscielny-Kompany-Cahil
      Ramires—Matić
      Young–Özil–Navas
      Sturridge—Costa
      Sub:Ospina.Chiriches.Filipe Luis.Walker.Pique.Khedira.Rémy.
      Should I replace anyone ?

    4. G’day Rodrigo,

Thank you very much for the effort you spent in writings out the guides which I believe it’d benefited lots of newbei through the knowledge you’ve gained ever started playing FIFA.

Anyway just so you know that we both have the same sqrad cum formation. But I’d be best if you have no problem sharing the chemistry style which you applied to each individual player.

    5. Thank for the guide, i really loved it
i am actually using same formation 4-1-2-1-2 and most of the players u choosed
but u didnt mention Balotelli why is that?
for me i use Rooney as CAM
so i need to pick a 4th stricker beside Aguero Costa and Sturridge
and i looked into Balotelli stats to find out it’s even better than Lukaku and Benteke.
so the Question is if i have to choose between those 3 Balotelli Lukaku and Benteke
      which one should i pick
      thank you!

    6. Is making a bpl team better or a bundesliga team ??? Money is not a problem…. and is sif david silva better than di maria in cam????

    7. Thanks for the great work. So I managed to get the following team:
      Courtois
      Walker Koscielny Kompany Filipe Luis
      Cuadrado Di Maria Diaby Schurrle
      Defoe Costa

(saving money for Hazard, aguero and yaya toure!)
I just wonder, other than the 3 IF version of the 100k+ players (Hazard, Aguero, Yaya), who else do u recommend to improve this first team? i mean if I am saving enough to buy new players to replace anyone of them? (I was thinking of IF sanchez but seems like it doesn’t make that much difference compare to cuadrado, I also tried IF smalling but kompany is actually better!)

Rodrigo, do you have any suggestions?

    8. Hi Rodrigo I am thinking to buy Di Maria (as CAM) but i don’t know if i see bigger difference from Mata..I use Mata as CAM and Rooney with Van Persie as STs in 4-1-2-1-2…Is Di Maria way more better than Mata or is a slight difference between them, because the trio upfront works perfectly as i write to you now..Thanks

        1. I was thinking i need a boost in pace so i thought that if Di Maria is a lot better than Mata then even after changing Mata i would keep winning..But if the difference was very little then i wouldn’t break the trio

    9. Couple mistakes need correcting, because it might be confusing for noobs… Laurent Koscielny was 81, now 82 and Matic’s was 82 and is now 83, the way its presented looks like he’s been DOWNGRADED a point; only minor points, but it might be confusing for noobs..

Regarding my own experience, as you say, Ramires does ”possess a cocktail of work rate, pace and stamina which allows him to be everywhere”, this is the reason he’s my first choice CDM in my BPL side. His physical stat is low, compared to say, Matic, his team-mate, but you wouldn’t think so in fact I think he’s stronger physically than Matic in-game, that may be why a lot of people say he’s ‘OP’… In fact, in my experience Tiote gets bullied off the ball far more easily which is why I dropped him, because obviously you don’t need/want that in a CDM… There’s only one other BPL midfielder that I think is stronger – Yaya Touré, like you say, ”in large parts because of his amazing strength and stamina.”

I have to disagree when you say he doesn’t give everything he has to give to the team. To be fair though this is my 1st season playing FUT so I can’t compare him to past versions but he is always the 1st name in my mind when I set up a BPL team – I always play Bony upfront when I play yaya because he plays better with him than any other forward imho.. maybe its the club/country/league connection or maybe its because both their MOTM cards which I was fortunate to pack are just phenomenal. Also, it still makes me giggle watching him run in-game, arms flailing everywhere 🙂

      1. Hi.
I wouldn’t call it a ‘mistake’. What you are saying is that I should explain better what the bold means in the tables. Is this right ?
Yaya was my favourite player in previous FIFA’s. This year he is not as good as in the previous years, but he is still a top-class player.

    10. I don’t know why but I’ve tried Kompany but didn’t like him because of his pace so I’m using Vertonghen who is slower statwise but I feel more secure with him

      GK: Begovic
      LB: Baines
      CBs: Vertonghen, Koscielny
      RB: Coleman (Walker)
      CDM: Matic
      LM: Eriksen (Schurrle)
      RM: Navas
      CAM: Oscar
      STs: RVP, Sturridge

RVP’s slow pace is a minor problem but I have Sturridge to help him out
I’m fine with navas on the right
Who should I get? Hazard, Toure, Di Maria or Aguero to replace Stuuridge or maybe others? I have about 25k

    11. Hi Rodrigo,

Please advise how to improve my team: what formation and starting 11 is the best?
Right now here are my players:
      41212

      GK:
      Courtois
      Hart

      Defenders:
Felipe Luis ,Kompany, Koscielny(Updated), Gabriel, Azpilicueta(Updated), Debuchy, Walker

      CDM:
      Fabregas(U), Matic(U), Ramires, Toure

      CAM:
      Mata,Di Maria, Rooney,

      LM:
      Hazard, Silva

      RM:
      Cuadrado, Alexis

      ST:
      Aguero, Diego Costa (U), Remy

    12. mate this guide is fantastic and it’s helped me out a lot.
just one question, why do you rate the chelsea boys over Leighton Baines in the LF position?

I may be biased being an Everton man but I genuinely feel like he’s better (in the game and on the field)

      1. Thank you.
In our opinion they are better than Baines. They are faster, have better physical, etc…
But as we always say, the best player to us may not be to you. It depends of many factors.

    13. My squad 84 rated ✰✰✰✰✰
      De Gea
      Sagna Vertonghen Terry Moreno
      Matic Ramires
      Oscar
Willian Silva Should I replace anyone?
      Van Persie

    14. Hi Rodrigo this is a good revision but I thought you would do this revision taking into account the IFs so far(I know its too much work and they keep changing)…. But still even with your formation 4 1 2 1 2
I could see more dramaticall changes maybe not on defense but still imagine this.

MOTM COURTOIS || SIF De Gea
      IF Ivanovic—– Koscielny—-Kompany——SIF Clichy
      Ramires
      Cuadrado—————————————— TIF Sanchez
SIF Rooney || SIF David Silva || SIF Cazorla
IF Aguero || SIF Costa || SIF Sanchez

That is one dramatically competitive team, I know I know…. but Dan what the hell budget restriction much… I guess that is true but the way EA nuked the market place and still is going to keep bombing it putting prices further down…. This is a very attainable team.

Also I know that is a lot of work but Im happy to help with this guide = )

      cheers
      Dan

      1. Hi Dan. Thank you for sharing your favourite team.
As we previously said, IF cards are not good value for money and we do not recommend it unless you don’t know what to do with your coins. Besides that, there are more and more IF coming and in that way our guide will be always incomplete.
        Regards

        1. One final though Rodrigo since I respect your opinion a lot, but I guess this time I disagree a bit(LOL Nervous laughter)… I do think that Silva on an 89 IF CAM position is worth more than having say Di Maria; just becouse of the depth he gives to the squad either playing posession, counterattack or long ball footbal; plus his dribbling really compensates for his lack of strength. I guess what I am trying to say is that I understand not all the IFs are worth for the money but… position change IFs do in deed strenghthen some position that seemed weak on the BPL team….

          Just my 2 cents

          =)

          1. But then you could say TOTY Di Maria, SIF Rooney etc. etc. the guide would then have to be constantly changed, becoming unrealistic to the average user before long…

    15. Will be you be publishing similar revised versions for other leagues (Bundesliga, La Liga, etc.)?
