FIFA 19 Traits and Specialities Guide for Ultimate Team

FIFA 19 Traits and Specialities Guide for Ultimate Team

As we have explained in another guide, attributes are responsible for determining a player’s quality. However, when you look into a database, you may find that some players also have assigned traits, specialities and save styles. You probably don’t know what exactly they are or if they have any impact on your Ultimate Team player, but we will clarify it to you in our FIFA 19 Traits and Specialities guide.

Traits, Specialities and Save Styles

What’s the difference between them

First of all, it’s important to distinguish between traits, specialities and save styles.

TRAITS
Unique skill and play style of a player. They usually have impact on gameplay.

SPECIALITIES
Attributes and physical details of a player. They have no impact on gameplay.

SAVE STYLES
Goalkeeper’s types of saves. They have no impact on gameplay.

As you can see, only traits have impact on how a player performs. That’s why they are the focus of this guide.

FIFA 19 Traits

What FIFA 19 Traits are and which effect they have on your players

FIFA 19 Traits are used to provide players with unique skills and play styles in the game that match their real-life counterparts. Each Trait impacts some aspect of the player’s behaviour on the pitch or, in some cases, off of it.

Not all FIFA 19 Traits function the same way; some may change the way the player performs on the pitch, another may influence how often they are injured, and others may only have an impact when that player is being controlled by the CPU AI.

The CPU plays the game as you would, limited by the same input restrictions that a human player is. This means that the CPU team has an active player, just like you do, which we call the CPU AI-controlled player.

A CPU AI-controlled player exists in the following circumstances:
– On a team with no human players. For example, the CPU-controlled team in Squad Battles.
– On a team with human players who are all locked to specific players, that also has CPU teammates. For example, a Pro Clubs team, with less than 11 human players, with no “ANY” player.

A CPU AI-controlled player does not exist in the following circumstances:
– On a team with human players who are not locked to specific players. For example, a team in FUT Champions.

Each Trait has at least one effect that falls into at least one category, and in some cases, it may have more than one effect and/or effects that fall into multiple categories.

There are four FIFA 19 Traits categories:

ST STANDARD
Trait effects in this category impact the way that a player plays, both when controlled by a human and when controlled by the CPU AI.

AI CPU AI
Trait effects in this category impact the way that a player plays, but only when the player is being controlled by the CPU AI.

CM CAREER MODE
Trait effects in this category impact something in Career Mode, but they have no impact on the way that the player performs during actual gameplay.

VP VIRTUAL PRO
Trait effects in this category unlock something for your Virtual Pro in FIFA Pro Clubs or Player Career Mode.

FIFA 19 Specialities

What are specialities

Specialties are used to indicate that a player has a specific set of qualities and/or skills. They are derived from the attributes and physical details of a player, and are intended to allow for easy identification of players that would fit into some of the most common roles in football.

On their own, Specialties have no impact on gameplay or how a player performs, they are purely informational and used to help in identifying players in certain situations, such as scouting in Career Mode.

Here is a list of all the Specialties present in FIFA 19, along with the requirements that a player must meet in order to be assigned the Specialty.

FIFA 19 Goalkeeper Save Styles

What are save styles

Goalkeeper Save Styles are assigned to keepers based on the types of saves that they are specifically known for making. They are purely used to drive the animations that play for the keeper when they are making saves and have no impact on the effectiveness of the keepers or whether or not they save a particular shot.

FIFA 19 features two save styles:

ACROBATIC
The keeper will make reflex saves using agile animations that often have them go to ground.

TRADITIONAL
The keeper will make reflex saves using animations that keep the keeper on their feet whenever possible.

  1. une erreur dans profil de joueur complet un joueur complet a pas la spécialite menace aérienne c’est plutot le pivot qui a ça

  2. I want to be a writer. In sports games (fifa and P. E. S.). And also in real life football. Please.

Thank you for this article Rodrigo! It really helped me understand traits and discover the official player database.

  4. Hi Rodrigo,

    Great article as usual!

    Based on the following:

Poacher (Finishing: 85+ | Heading Accuracy: 85+ | Attacking Work Rate: Low or Medium)

I would like to ask does this mean Finishing over 85 is good?

What a lot of players wonder is what is a good stat, especially for applying chemistry.
Is 85 the minimum for a certain job such as finishing or long shot?
Is 90 much better or just slightly than a 85?
Is 99 and 98 stats a big difference?
Should we focus on minimizing weakness with chem styles or maximizing stats?

    1. Hi.
That is a good question. Some players like to improve their better stats, while others want the most balanced player possible. I believe we should try balance the stats but only the most important ones. Yes, 85 is good, 90 is better (not much better) and 99 much better.

      1. Rodrigo, Thank you for the response!

        Following up on the question.

Rafael Leao 86 as a ST, whose primary job is shooting, mostly inside the box but sometimes right outside the box.

Is he better with Marksman chem?

        Acceleration 94
        Sprint speed 91
        Positioning 95
        Finishing 96
        Shot Power 92
        Long Shots 82
Agility 92 (To turn and shoot)
        Reaction 89
        Composure 88

        Or Sniper?

        Acceleration 94
        Sprint speed 91
        Positioning 95
        Finishing 99
        Shot Power 87
        Ling Shots 72
Agility 97 (To turn and shoot)
        Reaction 89
        Composure 93

        Or Hawk?

        Acceleration 99
        Sprint speed 96
        Positioning 99
        Finishing 91
        Shot Power 97
        Long Shots 72
Agility 87 (To turn and shoot)
        Reaction 84
        Composure 88

        Thank You,
        Saint Etna

  5. Hey Rodrigo, great article as usual!
I noticed a couple traits missing like “tries to beat defensive line” – I know this sounds intuitive but I was curious as to how this affects gameplay on single-player v AI? Not sure if it’s a placebo but I can tell a difference between strikers who do / don’t have this trait and wanted to check my sanity 😀

    1. Sorry. I didn’t see your message. In this page, you can find every single trait. If it is not on this list, that’s because it doesn’t exist. You can go directly to the official EA database (the only one that is right!) and you will see that there is no ‘tries to beat defensive line”. Cheers

  6. Hi Rodrigo, thanks for all the explanation here and they are super helpful. Just want to understand what “tries to beat defensive line” is and how come it disappeared when Auba gets a POTM upgrade. Thanks!

    1. Hi. Thank you. The problem here is that you are seeing his traits on futbin or other non-official database. That’s a mistake. If you use the EA database, you will see that there is no ‘trie to beat defensive line’ trait and his traits are wrong. His NIF and POTM traits are the same ones.

    1. Go to Squads > Concept Squads > Add the Player you want > Player Details
From there you can see all player’s attributes, However, there is no such thing like Shooting Accuracy.

  7. I find it inconvenient & annoying that I can’t view Traits/Specialties or Positions playable on the Squad Building screen or my list of players in “My Club”. You can only check the info during a Match, which doesn’t allow for thorough preparation!

  8. Can you put a list of players with the most traits, top 50 or something please
