Introduction to the FIFA 17 La Liga Squad Guide

Building a team is the biggest challenge in FIFA 17 Ultimate Team. It doesn’t need to be the best team, this is because the budget may not allow it, but it needs to be the player’s stature for him to obtain success.

When choosing which players to play with, you will have to look carefully at their attributes. Choosing a team based on ratings is one of the most common mistakes on FUT 17. It’s precisely this aspect that this guide focuses on. For each position, and focusing on the truly important attributes, we’ll show you who are the best athletes to choose.

It’s also important that the player checks to see if the player he chooses fits the formations he likes to play in. For example, a good full back will be useless if the player only uses a formation with three defenders. According to these formations, the player must be cautious and look at the work rate. Try to relate them with the ones we advise in our Formations Guide.

Last but not least, it’s mandatory that you tune all of your team so that the individual and team chemistry will be as high possible. For this last step to be easier, the majority of the players start to define the type of team they’re building. Some choose to gather players of the same nationality, while others decide to form a team of players from the same league. There are also more experienced players that can form hybrid teams without damaging team chemistry a lot.

All of these steps are necessary to have; or it could mean that the team is not always well built as it could be. This article aims to help those that want to form a FIFA 17 La Liga Santander squad. Even the players that already have a team based in this league, could take out some valuable conclusions from this guide that could help you make your team even better.

We received thousands of comments about similar guides that we have published in previous years. Most of them have asked us to help improve their teams and the players they had. It’s important that the readers understand that this guide is simply guidance. It’s a theme too vast and the player combinations are almost infinite. Besides, there are various factors that influence the choices, like one’s style of play, the formations used, the available budget, the preferences or even the time spent playing. There’s still one uncertain component: a good player for someone might not be for another. If there was a better team everyone would fight to get it. Part of the fun of FIFA 17 Ultimate Team is this: everyone has their personal club and players.

Another important point and that must stay very clear is that whoever is reading this guide, it’s about some criteria we chose and should be of everyone’s knowledge:

    Only Gold Players
In this guide we didn’t consider silver or bronze player. Most players don’t assume them to be a better option than gold players, so to simplify the guide’s analysis we didn’t include them. In the future we may come to publish guides exclusively talking about these qualities.
    Only Regular Players
In this guide we didn’t consider In Forms (IF). They’re extremely expensive and in most cases are not considered good value for money. They should only be used by players with generous budgets, that already have the best team possible and that want small upgrades.
    Only Normal Players
In this guide we didn’t consider players that have been transferred to other clubs or that have been reviewed (UP). Only players that started their season in the La Liga Santander and with their original attributes were considered.
    Only Original Attributes
In this guide we didn’t consider changes made on a players performance such happens when applying training or chemistry styles cards.
    Position analysis
To make the comprehension of this guide easier we divided the players in nine distinct groups in order of their original position: Goalkeeper (GK), central backs (CB), right backs (RB and RWB), left backs (LB and LWB), central defensive midfielders (CDM) central midfielders (CM and CAM), right midfielders (RM, RW and RF), left midfielders (LM, LW and LF) and forwards (CF and ST).
    Fluctuation of Prices
In the chapter where FIFA 17 La Liga Santander squads are suggested, we added a link where you can check anytime the updated prices.

La Liga Santander

Arguably no league has as good players as the main football competition in Spain. The qualification for the champion is made through the points system. Whichever team gathers the most points wins the league. The first four classified gain access to the champions league in the following year, while the fifth and sixth qualify for the Europa League and the last three trade places with the first two promoted from the Segunda División and with the play-off winner. Every season starts in August and finishes in May, having 38 game weeks with 10 matches each, being a total of 380 matches per season.

The Liga BBVA is the third most watched football league in the world and the best league classified in the UEFA league coefficients.

Started in 1928, La Liga has only been conquered by nine clubs. The dominant clubs are Real Madrid and Barcelona, with a total of 32 and 24 titles. Atlético de Madrid (10), Atlético de Bilbao (8), Valência (6) and Real Sociedad (2) were the other teams that have won the league more than once, while Deportivo la Coruna, Real Bétis and Sevilla only won the title once.

As of last season, the La Liga lost some good players such as Claudio Bravo and Nolito (Manchester City), Borja Bastón (Swansea), Grzegorz Krychowiak and Jesé (Paris Saint-Germain), Ciro Immobile (Lazio) and Lucas Pérez (Arsenal). But, the biggest transfers out were Eric Bailly, from Villarreal to Manchester United, and Shkodran Mustafi, from Valência to Arsenal, for a total amount of almost 80 million Euros.

These transfers didn’t necessarily make the La Liga weaker. The Spanish teams spent more than 500 million Euros on strong reinforcements: Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne (FC Barcelona), Nico Gaitán and Sime Vrsaljko (Atlético de Madrid), Roberto Soriano and Nicola Sansone (Villareal), Franco Vázquez and Joaquín Correa (Sevilha) and Ezequiel Garay and Nani (Valência). But the biggest signing of the season happened in Madrid. Álvaro Morata returned to Real Madrid for a transfer fee around 30 million Euros.

There are many great player choices to make which will make an even better team for you to aim to build. But, since it’s the league with better players, their prices are high. Only the Premier League players are more expensive than these ones. To the players with a limited budget, there are other better options.

Best FIFA 17 La Liga Goalkeepers

GK

Goalkeepers are the players that are used least on the field. Because of this they are also first ignored when building a team. Most players start their purchases with a forward, later they strengthen the midfield, the defence and only later the goal. The truth is a good goalkeeper may be worth a lot of goals. They are a good investment because they are normally the most economically accessible players.

The goalkeepers with most prestige in La Liga Santander play in Madrid: Oblak and Keylor Navas. With having the best rating they are also the most searched for by this league’s teams so this makes them more expensive.

MOST HIGH-RATED GOALKEEPERS
Jan Oblak 87 Atlético Madrid SVN
Keylor Navas 85 Real Madrid COS
Diego Alves 83 Valencia CF BRA
Marc-André ter Stegen 83 FC Barcelona GER

Sergio Rico 80 Sevilla FC ESP
Carlos Idriss Kameni 80 Málaga CF CAM

When choosing a good goalkeeper it’s not only down to his rating. There are two fundamental attributes for choosing a good goalkeeper: reflexes and diving.

The first measures a goalkeeper’s agility when making a save. The best on this aspect are Diego Alves and Ochoa.

GOALKEEPERS WITH BEST REFLEXES

Diving is a fundamental attribute when choosing a goalkeeper. It measures the capacity for a goalkeeper to make a save when jumping.

Diego Alves is also the best one with this attribute, with a slight advantage over Keylor Navas. For those who are looking for the cheaper solution, Rulli is a valid alternative.

The most experienced Ultimate Team players know that another leaning factor on a goalkeeper’s performance without considering the remaining four attributes: height. The more tall a goalkeeper is, better his chances of having a clean sheet.

This is the weakness of Oblak, Navas and Diego Alves. None of these goalkeepers are even in this TOP 10.

Now that Casillas, Courtois and Claudio Bravo are not playing in this league any more, the choice for the best La Liga goalkeeper on FIFA 17 Ultimate Team is not easy.

In our opinion, this position is in good hands (literally) whether you choose Jan Oblak or Keylor Navas. The two goalkeepers are similar stat-wise for the most important attributes. If we had to pick one, it would be Oblak because he is taller and has an amazing handling stat – in the entire game, only Courtois ie better than him.

In terms of cheaper goalkeepers, our suggestion goes for Diego Alves. For those who want an even cheaper option, Rulli is also a good alternative. He is clearly better than Marc-André ter Stegen and cheaper.

Best FIFA 17 La Liga Centre Backs

CB

A goalkeeper task is made easier if in front of him are quality central backs. Their function is to stop the opponent from getting dangerously close to your team’s goal.

Sergio Ramos is the centre back with best reputation in La Liga Santander.

HIGHEST RATED CENTRE BACKS
Sergio Ramos 89 Real Madrid ESP
Diego Godín 88 Atlético Madrid URU
Pepe 88 Real Madrid POR
Piqué 86 FC Barcelona ESP

Samuel Umtiti 82 FC Barcelona FRA
Stefan Savić 82 Atlético Madrid MON
Adil Rami 82 Sevilla FC FRA
Víctor Ruíz 81 Villarreal CF ESP
Iñigo Martínez 81 Real Sociedad ESP

On a centre back, two attributes assume particular importance on their performance: defending and physical, which represents strength, stamina, aggression and jumping.

A player with good at defending will have an easier chance of dispossessing the opponent and avoid him reaching your box.

It’s the case of the three best rated players, Ramos, Godín and Pepe. It’s really hard to get past them. The most experienced players are normally those who have a higher rating with this attribute.

CENTRE BACKS WITH BEST DEFENDING
Diego Godín 88 Atlético Madrid URU
Pepe 88 Real Madrid POR

The physical attribute shows the old heading capability but also how likely the players are to win game with their body. This is a crucial attribute when looking for the best centre back.

In this chapter players are very balanced.

CENTRE BACKS WITH BEST PHYSICAL

Defending and heading may be useless against fast opponents. It’s necessary to fight fire with fire. No one likes feeling impotent when seeing you get overrun by extremely fast players. Even though, in a way, centre backs aren’t that fast, every team needs one of these players with a high pace attribute.

This is where Diego Godín and Javier Mascherano are weak. There are much faster players in La Liga. As usual, the first on the list is Sergio Ramos.

Jorge Meré 70 Sporting Gijón ESP
José María Giménez 69 Atlético Madrid URU
Aïssa Mandi 68 Real Betis ALG

Sergio Ramos is our number one choice for this position. Fast and with good defending and attacking attributes, the Madrid’ defender is for that the without a chance most expensive of all central backs of the La Liga. Despite his high quality, you have to pay attention to this player because of his work rate high/medium. You need to choose very well who will be his team mate in the center of the defence. We recommend Pepe, because he is the second best centre back of this league and has the perfect work rate to play with Sergio Ramos.

Except you are playing with a 5xx formation, we don’t recommend to use Mascherano, Piqué or Godín. They are too slow. Varane and Umtiti are cheaper and much better choices.

Best FIFA 17 La Liga Right Backs

RB | RWB

Full backs have the role of troubling the job of wingers. In addition, good full backs also support their team mates on offensive manoeuvres.

Choosing the best right back for a La Liga squad is an extremely hard choice. There are various valid options depending on the style of play.

HIGHEST RATED RIGHT BACKS
Carvajal 83 Real Madrid ESP
Juanfran 83 Atlético Madrid ESP
De Marcos 81 Athletic Bilbao ESP
Danilo 80 Real Madrid BRA
Mario Gaspar 80 Villarreal CF ESP
Hugo Mallo 80 Celta Vigo ESP
Montoya 79 Valencia CF ESP
Mariano 79 Sevilla FC BRA
Šime Vrsaljko 79 Atlético Madrid CRO
João Cancelo 79 Valencia CF POR

There are very important attributes for any right back: defending and pace.

Since they’re defenders they should have good defending capacities. This reduces a team’s risk of conceding.

Carvajal is the player that best fits this aspect. The only other players that offer him any type of competition are Mario Gaspar and Juanfran.

RIGHT BACKS WITH BEST DEFENDING

Šime Vrsaljko 77 Atlético Madrid CRO
Aritz Elustondo 77 Real Sociedad ESP
Gabriel Mercado 77 Sevilla FC ARG
Bóveda 76 Athletic Bilbao ESP
Antonio Rukavina 76 Villarreal CF SRB

A flanked game tends to be faster than a game based in the middle of the field. The players that fill these spaces are obligated to be fast, both penetrating defensive and attacking moves of the team. Pace is one of the most important requirements for a good full back. Even in FIFA 17.

Alei Vidal is the fastest La Liga right-back in FIFA 17 Ultimate Team. Besides him, only Cancelo and Michel Macedo may be considered reasonably fast.

Juanfran 84 Atlético Madrid ESP
Mariano 84 Sevilla FC BRA

The right-backs are probably the most difficult choices of this league. In our opinion, Juanfran is the best one. However, Carvajal is also a quality choice, except if you need pace. In that case, pick De Marcos or João Cancelo.

Best FIFA 17 La Liga Left Backs

LB | LWB

Left backs have exactly the same role of their team mates on the other flank. In other words, they try to make a winger’s job hard and participate in the team’s offensive manoeuvres.

There are two La Liga players that stand out in this position: Marcelo and Jordi Alba.

Marcelo is clearly the left back who defends better in this league.

Fernando Navarro 66 RC Deportivo ESP
Miguel Torres 64 Málaga CF ESP
Benoît Trémoulinas 78 Sevilla FC FRA

Jordi Alba is once again the fastest left back in the Spanish league. He makes his speed his biggest threat.

Lucas Digne 80 FC Barcelona FRA
Marcelo 79 Real Madrid BRA
Jonny 78 Celta Vigo ESP
Yuri 78 Real Sociedad ESP

Marcelo is slightly better than Alba in almost every stat, but the pace of the Spanish player can make the difference many times. What he lacks in these attributes he highly compensates with his pace. That’s the main reason why we consider him the best La Liga Santander left back.

Of all the remaining players, Filipe Luís is probably the most interesting one. However, Gayà is our cheapest choice. He doesn’t have the same efficiency as the others we referred too but he’s fast enough to cause some offensive damage and possesses decent skills.

Best FIFA 17 La Liga Defensive Midfielder

CDM

Many of the FIFA 17 Ultimate Team formations require some midfielders that have a natural aptitude to defend. Central defensive midfielders distinguish themselves for being especially aimed to help the more retreated line of their teams. According to their attributes and their work rates, they can also be useful for starting attacks. They are players that occupy a very strategic position in the field.

With regard to the popularity, the supremacy of Busquets over all other La Liga Santander central defensive midfielders is extremely clear.

Daniel Torres 77 Deport. Alavés COL

There are a variety of attributes in a central defensive midfielder that you have to give attention: defending, so that the first defender of team works; strength, so that you win all brawls in a prone area of the field; heading, to win possession in aerial moves like goal kicks; pace, so that you cover the most terrain on the field as possible; stamina, so they can equally participate in offensive and defensive moves (especially useful for players with high/high work rates); passing and possession so that he can properly start attacks. In our opinion the two first are the most important.

Normally using a central defensive midfielder is associated with having a deficit of elements in your defence. So, it makes sense that when you search for a player to occupy this position you’d want players that can defend.

The CDM with best defending stats are Busquets and Ibora. They are good choices for teams that want to complicate an opponent’s game in the space between the midfield and the defence.

The area of the field occupied by the central defensive midfielders is the one where most ball disputes happen. Strong players will have a higher probability of winning the ball.

There’s a lot of muscle between the La Liga Santander central midfielders. N’Zonzi, Papa Kouli Diop and Casemiro are good examples of that.

In our opinion, Busquets is a special defensive midfelder because he’s tactical, good on the ball and play better in the opposite midfield.

For those who want an element that offer defensive solidity to the team for a low price, N’Zonzi is a very interesting choice. He is our economic choice.

A lot of games are decided in the midfield and not close to the goals. The players that play in these zones are the ones that should create the game and define its rhythm.

It’s in midfield that there’s more quality in La Liga Santander. Some of the world’s best footballers play there. It’s the case of the Iniesta, Kroos, James and Rakitic.

Iniesta is the best player in the attributes that we consider most important in this position. However, our preferences goes to James Rodriguez and Modric. They are much more balanced midfielders. James is one of the fastest players and with better shooting while the Croatian is a box to box player. Kroos is not in our first choices because he is too slow for this game.

You should choose your centre midfielder according to your needs. Modric is the perfect CM who helps the defence; James is a CAM that tries to make the difference in the last third of the field; Iniesta is the best player to assists to goal. If you don’t have money for these players, you can try Rakitic

André Gomes, Koke and Isco are three quality players that can be used in medium budget squads.

Our cheapest choice falls to Turan.

Best FIFA 17 La Liga Right Wingers

RM | RW | RF

The wingers are responsible for giving game width in the attack. They’re normally very explosive players.

The best wingers in the world play in La Liga Santander: Ronaldo and Neymar on the left side; Messi and Bale one the right side.

HIGHEST RATED RIGHT WINGERS
Lionel Messi 93 FC Barcelona ARG
Gareth Bale 90 Real Madrid WAL
Vitolo 82 Sevilla FC ESP
Carlos Vela 81 Real Sociedad MEX

There are three fundamental attributes for a winger: pace, dribbling and passing.

Pace is probably the biggest weapon of these players. They use it to evade opponents and getting to the other side, many times via sprints on the side lines.

La Liga Santander is extremely well served in this chapter. Gareth Bale is one of the fastest player in the whole game.

Just being fast doesn’t cut it to reach the opponents box, having good dribbling to surpass the opponents’ players that appear on the way.

There are a lot of players gifted in dribbling, but no one can be compared to Lionel Messi. He has the best dribbling stat in the game.

When reaching the opponents box the winger has to decide what to do. Normally, they choose to cross to the forwards. That is why it’s important for them to have good passing.

Once again, Messi is the best one.

Lionel Messi is clearly the most indicated players to occupy this position in a team without budget restraints. He is the one with best passing, shooting and dribbling. The only problem is his price. If you are rich but not so much, Bale is also a top-quality winger.

For those that can’t pay so many coins, Williams, Carlos Vela and Vitolo might be an option, depending of how much important is pace to you. However, Fabián Orellana is much cheaper and almost as good as these wingers. That’s why he is our economic choice.

Ronaldo is the most expensive player in the game. His price prohibits him from lots of budgets, proving the worth of the player. He’s without a doubt the best La Liga left winger and, for many people, the best player in the world. Among all the left wingers of this league, he is the one with best pace, shooting and physical. But there is more: he has the best shooting of the game and he is one of the few that can perform any skill.

For those that don’t want to pay as many coins for the captain of Portuguese National Team, the alternative is Neymar. The Brazilian winger is also very expensive but for some reason he is the third best rated player in FUT 17.

There are no big differences between Gaitán, Nani and Carrasco. The first one is more balanced, Nani has better skills and the third one is faster. Any of them is a good choice for medium-budget squads. Our preference goes for the Portuguese winger because of his 5 star skills and 4 star weak foot.

Nasri, Samu Castillejo and Cheryshev are great options for low budget teams.

To score goals shooting is necessary. If either by foot or head, the most important attribute for a forward are: shooting, heading and pace.

Jump, strength and stamina are the ingredients to the new physical attribute, very important when we are analysing the best forwards: jump to score with the head; strength to dispute the ball with the opponents; and stamina to sprint in direction of goal at any time of the game.

That’s here where Suárez confirms how good he is. Griezmann, for example, is almost in the bottom of this list.

Suárez is the best La Liga forward, without any discussion. He has the best passing, shooting and dribbling. However, he is very expensive forcing many players to choose another forward.

Griezmann is the best alternative to Suárez. He received a huge upgrade this year, making him much better choice than Benzema. The only weakness of the Atlético’s striker is his strength, something that Benzema is really good.

There is a lack of quality strikers for medium budget squads. The best three we found were Bakambu, Gameiro and Morata. Our preference goes for Bakambu, mainly because of his pace. Morata is stronger and has a better heading, but Gameiro is better is almost everything else.

Far from the quality of these strikers, Pato and Aduriz are good options for low-budget squads. The first one is great for fast attacks while Aduriz is better for a crossing play style.

FIFA 17 La Liga Squad Suggestions

A lot of people think that this is the most important part of the guide. It’s not. The thing that is really important to know is how to choose players based on their role and style of play that fits each player. The team suggestions that follow are simple graphic indicators of what we wrote previously. They should serve merely as orientation because it’s impossible to build a team that fits everyone. They depend on various factors we don’t know such as budget, formation, style of play and player preferences.

To try and explore the needs of the maximum player as possible we suggest three teams with different budgets and formations: 4-1-2-1-2 with unlimited budget, 4-3-3 with medium budget and 4-4-2 with a low budget.

Summary

The choice for this team’s players was based on the analysis made previously.

Oblak and Navas are both good goalkeepers and you will be fine with either of them.

Sergio Ramos keeps on being the boss of the defensive foursome for all and a few more reasons. His weakest point is his attacking work rate and that’s why someone more defensive should play next to him. That’s the case of Pepe. On the right side, Dani Alves moved to another league and the position was taken by Juanfran or Carvajal, both decent choices. In the left side, it’s difficult to choose between Alba and Marcelo. To us, what makes the difference is the great Alba’s pace.

Although Modric is originally a CM in FUT 17, he also can play as CDM if you have an attacking style. He is a box to box player but if you think you need someone more suitable to give security to your defensive line, you should pick Sergio Busquets instead of him. For the next position, James Rodriguez is the most balanced player.

On the wings, this league has the two best players in the world: Messi and Ronaldo. It is a waste to leave such talents like Neymar and Bale out of this team and for that reason we moved Ronaldo to striker, opening a room for the Barcelona’s winger on the left side. You can give full chemistry to Ronaldo if you use his TOTW card or you can get a decent chemistry if you apply him a LW-LF card. One thing is guaranteed: he will play much better as striker than Griezmann, who was relegated to the bench. The other spot of the attack is obviously for Luis Suárez, an amazing goals machine.

Once all the players reach maximum individual chemistry via loyalty (achieved by each player after 10 matches for your club or by being pack pulled) you can go without a manager for your squad. They’ll be of no use while wasting contracts.

Summary

The choices for this more affordable team players was based on analysis made previously.

In goal, Oblak is affordable enough to keep his position.

Varane and Umtiti are both fast and solid defensively. In our opinion, they are much better choices than older centre backs like Godín or Marscherano, who are too slow to this game. Juanfran and Filipe Luis complete our defending foursome.

To the central position of the midfield, our preference goes for André Gomes, since he has the muscle that every midfield needs and also for his balanced attacking and defensive skills. He is like a light version of Modric. Koke and Isco complete the midfield.

While Williams beats the concurrence on the right wing, Nani or Gaitán could equally fill with quality the opposite side. It all depends if you need someone skilly or not.

Over the attack line, Bakambu is our favourite. He is not as popular as Gameiro and Morata, but if you give him a try you will understand why he makes part of our choices.

If you still have some room in your budget, Rakitic is the player that would improve this squad a lot.

Summary

The choice for this budget team was based on analysis made previously.

Diego Alves is the first choice to keep your goal safe, but Rulli is also an interesting goalkeeper.

One of the good things of not building a Premier League squad is the chance to find quality players for a good price. Mangala and Mathieu would be much more expensive if they played in England. The fullbacks of this team are really fast players: Gayà and De Marcos.

On the midfield, N’Zonzi and Kovacic complement each other well. The first one is strong, quick and aggressive, the second is a player that usually pushes forward to assist his colleagues. Vela and Nasri fill the wings in order to assist Alexandre Pato and Aduriz. If you usually don’t cross to the box, replace Aduriz by Yedder.

  1. Hi,
And thanks for a great guide / input! I sold my “bundesliga” team and I am starting a la liga team now. Still buying… but this is my (planned) setup 4-3-3(4):

    First Squad
GK: Jan Oblak IF 89 (reserve Navas)
RB: planned De Marcos IF 84 (planned reserve Carvajal)
CBR: planned Sergio Ramos (Pique atm, then as reserve)
    CBL: Pepe (reserve Varane)
LB: Jordi Alba (planned reserve Marcelo or Luiz)
    CM: Luka Modric (reserve Casemiro)
CM: Andres Iniesta (reserve planned ??)
CAM: James Rodriguez (reserve planned ??)
RW: Gareth Bale (reserve planned ??)
LM: planned Carrasco IF 87 (planned reserve Gaitan)
    ST: Karim Benzema

I still have 330k (minus 30K for De Marcos IF) coins for the rest of the team and I am wondering if you could give me some advice on how to proceed best.
The question is if I should buy Neymar for LW instead (would cost me 285K) which would leve me with only 15k for the rest of the reserves, or if I should go for Luis Suarez (cost about 190K). But buy would mean I will have to wait with buing Sergio Ramos…
Alternatively I could buy Sergio Ramos, Griezmann, Carrasco IF 87 and invest more in the reserves (Marcelo).
Do you have a suggestion for me? Many thanks in advance and kind regards,
    Frank

    1. Hi,
I bought Juanfran and Carvajal for RB, and then I also bought Sergio Ramos and Luis Suarez:

GK: Jan Oblak IF 89 (planned reserve Alves)
      RB: Juanfran (reserve Carvajal)
      CBR: Sergio Ramos (reserve Pique)
      CBL: Pepe (planned reserve Varane)
LB: Jordi Alba (planned reserve Marcelo or F. Luis)
      CM: Luka Modric (reserve Casemiro)
CM: Andres Iniesta (planned reserve Ivan Rakitić)
CAM: James Rodriguez (reserve planned ??)
RW: Gareth Bale (planned reserve Carlos Vela)
      LM: Carrasco (reserve Nani)
ST: Luis Suarez (reserve Karim Benzema … will try to get Griezmann later)

Leaves me with 39K to get the planned reserves… if you have suggestions or ideas on better setup I really appreciate hearing from you. Thanks in advance!
      /Frank

        1. Thanks Rodrigo,
yeah I am finishing up the team according to your sugesstions and bought Rakitic and Vela as planned. Hadn’t thought of Isco … I bought Gomes instead – but he will have a hard time getting “playtime” 🙂

  2. Hello Rodrigo, I was wondering if I can do any improvements to my squad..
    I play 4-3-3 (4)
    Oblak
    Carvajal-pique-godin-alba
    Busquets-rakitic-iniesta
    IF Aspas- Suarez- carrasco
Should I change anything? And is Griezmann better than suarez because he’s faster?
    Thank you

    1. Suarez is better. I don’t know how much coins do you have to spend but Pepe, for example, could be a good addition, not to mention James and Modric (probably too expensive!)

      1. Is James a better CAM than iniesta? And should pepe replace godin or pique?? Thank you

  3. hello Rodrigo
Returning to the point of getting into the fray of unlimited budget. What would you put it for pepe? In the first squad ?. Or how would you do it?
    Thank you.

    1. Sorry for missing information in the comment above.
I was referring to who I would put to pique in the first squad? Or how would I do it?
      Thanks again

      1. Then in a nutshell would you include him in the substitute team?
If so, would you put it next to umtiti or varane?

  4. Would you recommend some modification with the output of the upgrades in a medium budget squad?

      1. What do you think about carrasco up, vitolo up and lucas vazquez up?
Could they enter the middle budget squad? Or are they better gaitan and nani on the left and williams and vela up on the right?
        Thank you

  5. I was wondering if there are any upgrades you could recommend, I currently have:
    Nani, Bakambu, Williams
    Koke, André Gomes, Isco
    Gayá, Umtiti, Varane, Juanfran
    Oblak

I am willing to go up to 100k for upgrades atm and my left back is Gayá so I think that Filipe Luis would be good but I thought I might save up for Marcelo or Alba instead? I was wondering what the biggest change in my club could be

    1. And do you think trying to do the PL SBC is worth it? Not just for Kane but for any player that comes along as they wont show up again?

  6. Hey man! I have question on my squad and where to improve it. I have a 4-3-3(4) with GK- Navas LB- Trémoulinas CB- Varane CB- Laporte RB- Carvajal CM- Rafinha CM- Koke CAM- Isco LW- Gaitán ST- Aduriz RW- Nani. Any suggestions on who I should switch out and people I should save up for?

  7. hello Rodrigo!
With the winter updates, how would the best players of each position? What changes would there be in the top 5 ?.
    Thank you
    a greeting

      1. -Pique in formation of 4 defenses? .I say this in case you consider a problem the rhythm ?. In case it does not imply problem that would exchange it for umtiti accompanying to varane or pepe accompanying to sergio ramos ?.
-Carvajal would put him in first squad for juanfran ?.
        – Some of the winter market could be part of the squad with medium budget ?.

  8. Hi do you have any upgrades to suggest?

    playing a 4-1-4-1
    Sergio Asenjo (upgrade)
    Juanfran Varane Giminez Tremoulinas
    Casemiro (upgrade)
Vela (upgrade) Gomes Turan Carrasco (upgrade)
    Aspas (upgrade)

I have been having a problem with the striker position, I can’t afford the top top players but have tried Bakumbu, Gameiro and now Aspas and none have played as well as i would have liked.

Probably wrong place to ask but I also have a PL team if you have any suggestions
    4-1-4-1
    Begovic
    Coleman Matip (upgrade) Mustafi Azpi
    Matic
    Shaqiri Herrera(upgrade) Ramsey Pedro
    Firmino (upgrade)

  9. Hi again! I ask for your advice. I have this current La Liga squad. And I currently own 45000 coins, so I would like to know your thoughts about where to improve and how, thank you very much!

      1. Thanks. Pepe for Mangala you mean? and 50000 coins is still not enough to make any other improvement yet right? I guess I will have to collect more.

          1. Thanks again. I managed to save around 70000 coins now. I will try those 2 as next improves.

  10. Fernando Vitale

I just want to thank you for the trouble, and tell you that you do a fantastic work, not only on this guide but on the whole site. Thanks!

  12. Hi, I’m trying Tocqueville build a low budget team and I need a LM/LW. I don’t really care about skills, more about speed and crossing. Are Carcela-Gonzalez, Bebe, Musonda or Szymanowski good options? Who out of those is the best? Castillejo I already tried and didn’t like, and Nani and Gaitan are to expensive. Thanks!

  13. Hi Rodrigo,

Finally I got an great team (man by man):
    Neuer
    Jordy Alba
    S.Ramos
    Boateng
    Sergi Roberto (IF RB)
    Messi – RM
    Modric – CDM
    James – CAM
    Neymar – LM
    C.Ronaldo – ST
    Luis Suarez – ST

Even when is a great team, I struggle a lot in the games, I cannot pass the 6th division, is there something due Messi and Neymar are more offensive playing them as RM-LM, or you think is more my playing skills? (Like driving a Ferrari but learning to drive).

If so what do you recommend to improve skills.

    Thanks
    Javi

    1. Hi. Great team.
First of all, be calm. Don’t get upset when losing. Sometimes it is difficult to win because we don’t accept our mistakes when playing with a top team like yours.
I also recommend to complete all the skill games. They help a lot.
      Regards

      1. Thank you Rodrigo, another question, I would like to build an alternate “2nd” team, but not sure which one could be better as a second team, regarding your previous articles.
        Liga Santander Top second team
        GK: Keylor Navas
        RB: Carvajal
        CB: Samuel Umtiti
        CB: Raphael Varane
        LB: Marcelo
        CDM: Sergio Busquets
        RM: Gareth Bale
        LM: Nani
        CAM: Iniesta
        ST: Karim Benzema
        ST: Antoine Griezmann

        Premier 2nd team
        GK: Thibaut Courtois
        RB: Héctor Bellerín
        CB: Eric Bailly
        CB: Nicolás Otamendi
        LB: Leighton Baines
        CDM: Yaya Touré
        RM: Henrikh Mkhitaryan
        LM: Alexis Sánchez
        CAM: Mesut Özil
        ST: Jamie Vardy
        ST: Daniel Sturridge

        Bundesliga 2nd team
        GK: Bernd Leno
        RB: Łukasz Piszczek
        CB: Naldo
        CB: Mats Hummels
        LB: Ricardo Rodriguez
        CDM: Luiz Gustavo
        RM: Karim Bellarabi
        LM: Douglas Costa
        CAM: Julian Draxler
        CF: Thomas Müller
        ST: Javier Hernández

Maybe Premier 2nd could be better with in quality what you prefer?

        Thanks and all the best!

  14. Hi Nice job on the guide. Do you have any tips for the squad i have as of right now

4-3-3 (2) with casemiro as CDM
    Oblak
    Alba-Pepe-Varane-Juanfran
    Modric-Casemiro-Isco
    Carrasco-Ben Yedder- Inaki Williams

  15. Hi, I have some cash to improve my team, but I’m not sure of what player to buy.

Atm, that is my squad: (4321)

    Oblak
Juanfran – umtiti – varane – Filipe Luis
André Gomes – Casemiro – rakicit
    Williams – Benzema – Nani

My opinion is that my midfield is lacking consistency on oportunity creation, and I think maybe Casemiro is not good enough on passing. Is it worth to buy its totw version? I dont think I like busquets. Otherwise, is there a CM with good defensive stats that worth not having a cdm?

    Thanks

  16. First team

    LCM-Busquets
    CAM-Isco
    RCM-Rakitic
    LW-Carrasco
    ST-Bakambu

let me hear your opinion about teams and players

  17. La Liga Squad

    Hey Rodrigo,
I only have a budget of 35k and am looking at building these 2 La Liga teams
    433(4)
    Alves
    Carvajal Varane Garay Gaya
    Koke Isco Parejo
    Vela Gameiro Carrasco

    433(4)
    Ruli
    Cancelo Mangala Umtiti Tremoulinas
    Wass Kovavcic Boateng
    Orellana Bakambu Castelljo

The first one would be main squad and the second would be the fitness sqaud

    Any improvements?

    Cheers!

Thanks for all the fantastic guides they really help!

  18. Hi, I have 1 milion coins and i want to build a team, not necessarily La Liga Santander. Someone can recommend me a team on this coins, preferably 4-3-3 (4)? My current team is:
    Gk: Navas
    Lb: Gaya
    CB: Mascherano
    CB: Varane
    RB: Carvajal
    CM: Isco
    CM: Koke
    CAM: James Rodriguez
    RW: Williams
    LW: Carrasco
    ST: Ben Yedder

    Thank you very much!

      1. I don’t like bundesliga so much, i like Premier League or La Liga more. Can you tell me a squad on this coins?

  19. Hello again
I want to move to a 4-2-3-1 training (2) and I have seen the formations guide put on this website but I still have doubts on who to put the holder and substitutes and reserves to the CDM’s and CAM. I am among these players based on the guide, but N’zonzi IF for the lack of pace of busquets, are the following: N’zonzi IF, Casemiro, Andre Gomes, Rakitic, Modric, Iniesta, James Rodriguez, Isco, Koke, Turan . With which would you stay and where would you place each one?

    Thanks in advance
    A greeting.

      1. James for CAM I suppose. And modric where you put it ?. And as for the rest of players ?. I would like to stay with 1 holder and 1 substitute per position.
It would be for the formation 4-2-3-1 (2).

  20. Hi,
I just got David villa in the recent squad builder challenge and am trying to fit him in a team. Am thinking of using a la liga team with Spanish players to link with him. This is the tentative team I’ve come up with. What are your thoughts?

    41212
    Diego alves
    Juanfran-Mathieu-Mangala-Gaya
    Casemiro
    Williams-Carrasco
    Isco
    David Villa-Morata

I’ve chosen Williams, Isco and morata for their Spanish links with villa…

  21. First of all, thank this guide for one more year.
    My current team is this:
    4-3-3 (4)
    GK: Oblak, Keylor Navas
    RB: Juanfran, Carvajal
    CB: Pepe, Varane, Umtiti, Mathieu
    LB: Jordi Alba, Filipe Luis.
CM: N’zonzi IF, Iniesta, Andre gomes, Rakitic
    CAM: James Rodriguez, Isco
    RW: Williams, Sailing
    LW: Nani, Gaitan
    ST: Gameiro IF, Benzema
I would like to improve my team and because the No InForm cards I am very expensive, or there are no better players to replace the heights I am in different positions I was planning to replace them with InForm.
What is your opinion about Kameni IF, Iñigo Martinez IF and Mario Gaspar IF RB ?.
I’m thinking of selling Keylor Navas and replacing it with Kameni IF. What does the change look like? Kameni IF is worth little more than Keylor Navas. Is Kameni IF better than Keylor Navas?
As for Iñigo Martinez IF, he planned to replace him with Mathieu. What does the change look like? Is Iñigo Martinez IF better than Mathieu?
And as for Mario Gaspar IF RB had thought to replace it for Carvajal, what do you think the change ?. Is Mario Gaspar IF RB better than Carvajal?

    Thanks in advance.
I am looking forward to your response.
    A greeting.

    1. Hi. Thank you for your preference.
We don’t trust in in-game stats of IF cards and for that reason we haven’t tested most of them. You have a good team but probably you can improve it with NIF cards. Sergio Ramos, for example, is one of the players you should try. Sorry for not helping more but we can suggest players we haven’t tried.
      Regards

  22. Hey, This guide has been of great help for me, and i have almost the complete medium budget.
My starting 11 are in 4-3-3 (type changes)

    (Oblak/navas)
    luis- umitit-varane -carvajal
    modrich-raketic- (turan/koke/gomes)
    vela- gameiro- nani

And now i’m looking for the next upgrade, what player would you recommend?

  23. Hi, I am running a 4-3-3(2) with

    Oblak
    De Marcos Varane Pepe Gaya
    Casemiro
    Rakitic Koke
    Williams Bakambu Carrasco

What would you suggest as improvements?

    1. Thank you very much for your alert.
The page of that guide was to heavy and it was not loading. We have removed the first two chapters (introduction and PL) and it is now working fine. Comments on that page are not allowed anymore.

  24. Hi Rodrigo, hope you are well. I followed your guide and have this team:

    433(2)
    Alves
    Juanfran Varane Umtiti Gaya
    Casemiro
    Turan Gomes
    Williams Bakambu Nani

Moya Garay Carvajal Asensio Kovacic Castilejo Pato

How do you see the team and what to improve, maybe the next 3 position? I like bakambu, he’s been brilliant as you said.

    1. Just to add, taking advantage of the prices I’ve made some additions:

      433(4)
      Oblak
      Juanfran Varane Umtiti Gaya
      Koke Gomes
      Isco
      Williams Bakambu Nani

Alves Carvajal Casemiro Turan Carasco Vela Pato

I think this is more or less your 3rd/4th recommended options in the guide and I need to spend some serious coins to improve. I do have about 130k so was wondering where should I start? Am planning to wait for prices to go down more. Thanks!

      1. My first advice: wait 10 days to improve your team. Prices will be lower.
My suggestions: Rakitic, Alba, Pepe. You can also but Benzema or James, depending of the prices dropping.

        1. Thanks for the reply! Yes will definitely wait after nov 23. I assume Rakitic to replace Koke and Pepe to replace Umtiti?

Just to share, i started using morata as well. I felt his anticipation and movements were slightly better, as in his timing of the runs to go behind compared with bakambu.

          Thanks again!

  25. Hi im using your unlimited budget squad minus bale in the 41212. Its agreat squad how ever when i come up against people with 4321 i am struggling to win 90 percent of the time i lose. Other formations are no problem.Anyone withe the other 24 formations i beat Do you know aformation that is more suitable against the 4321? I love the squad its agreat guide i just cant break down the 4321

    1. You have a dream team! Congratulations.
Your problem is the midfield. They win the ball more easily than you because they have more players in the middle. If you want to win them you have to use the wings to attacks. That’s their weak point.

  26. Very good and a helpfull, however i have one question regarding cb what about laporte and garay they both 84 and they quite cheap, i am aiming for that mid budget team but i will use 433 as well, i already bought varane but i m wondering who else if umtiti or laporte or garay? What is your advice?
    Regards
    Mário

  27. Anderson Ávila

Boa noite, Rodrigo.

    Diego Alves
    Azpilicueta-Koscielny-Varane-Carvajal
    Ander Herera-Asensio (MC)
    Isco (Mei)
    Pedro-Giroud-Inaki Williams

Qual MC você me recomenda pro lugar do Asensio? Uso muito os chutes de fora.

  28. Hello Rodrigo! how are you?

i have a 4-1-2-1-2(2) formation with the following players:

    David Gea
Juanfran -Pique -inigo martinez – azpilicuete
    sergio busquets
    isco fabregas
    Mata
    aduriz – nolita

    (all in Spain national)

i want to improve in, so which player would you recommend me to go for ? either
defender – midfielder or striker ? can you suggest

    really appreciate it!!

    1. Hi.
I don’t know if I make suggestions from players of other nationalities or not but I would like to ask you to take a look to Varane instead of Pique. He will not play worse and you will save a few coins.

  29. I don’t think Bakambu is better than Gameiro. Faster and stronger yes, but Gameiro’s finishing is just fantastic. I’m using both in my team atm. Good job on the guide though, I follow it every year!

  30. Hi,
who is better Benzema or IF Gameiro?

    my squad
    Oblak
    Juanfran Varane Pepe Coentrao
    IF Nzonzi Busquets
    Williams James Nani
    Benzema

any suggestions? Im going to change Coentrao into Alba, Varane into Ramos, Nani into IF Carrasco, Williams into IF Orellana, Benzema into IF Gameiro.

  31. I really don’t know why you have to be such a pacewhore. Umtiti and Varane are better than Godin only in your dream. And also I see you put a CDM with high/medium workrates, what a genius.

    1. In this website we respect the opinion of everyone. If you have a different opinion, you can just say it normally without irony.
We publish these guides every year and the feedback we receive is excellent. We are not saying that you are wrong and we are right but, as we published, ‘this guide is simply guidance’. Choosing a team depends of many factors. We believe that for the majority, Umtiti and Varane will be better choices than Godin and our experience of previous years can prove it. H/M workrate is not the best WR for a CDM but, if you defend well (you probably don’t), it will be enough.

  32. Hello Rodrigo! First let me thank you for your excellent guides every year, i like to build teams (last year i had 18!) and test different players but its perfect to get some inspiration from your guides.
For la Liga i have a 4-1-2-1-2 formation with the following players:
    Diego Alves
    Juanfran-Gimenez-Garay-Gaya
    N’Zonzi
    Gabi-Kovacic
    Sansone (ZOM)
    Bakambu-Pato

At the moment i play in Division 3 but i want to improve, so which player would you recommend me to go for (I buy only players under 3k!)?

I’m excited looking forward to your answer. 🙂

  33. Hi!

I play a 4-1-2-1-2 wide formation. Would you recommend Modric as a CDM?

Currently I have Casemiro in that position. He does the job well, but I’m always looking to upgrade. I know Modric is a lot better as a midfielder, but I don’t know if he can play the defensive role. I plan to buy James as CAM so Modric would be in the bench if he doesn’t fit in CDM.

Also, what would be the next upgrade for this team?

    Oblak
    Alba – Pepe – Varane – Juanfran
    Casemiro
    Nani – Williams
    Modric
    Benzema – Bakambu

    Thanks for your guide!

    1. I should mention I discarded Busquets because of his pace, as you said in reply to another comment. However, I don’t understand then why Busquets is the top CDM in your guide.

    2. Hi.
That’s a good question. Modric is not the best player to use as CDM. However, he can play in that position depending of your play style. If you already have him, you should give a try.
About your team, I believe that if you are going to buy James, then you should sell Modric. In that way, you will have coins to buy Sergio Ramos, the player that is missing in your team.
      Regards

  34. What is the best formation for this league ? Last year in fifa 16 i found the best formation for bbva the 442 but when i used the bpl i found the 41212 was better for that league. I have adecent squad with if Ronaldo but struggling with the right formation. Thank you

    1. Well, it depends of your play style.
Playing this league without wingers is a waste. In other hand, players should avoid using a CDM because there is lack of quality players in that position for this league. So, in our opinion 442 is one of the good choices you may take.

      1. This is my team at the moment as the 442. IF ronaldo greizman lm is nani then i have ineista and rakitic and my rm is vela then the defence is alba godin pepe carvahil. Anything you would change? Also what do you think would be the best chemistry cards for the team

  35. Nice guide. I would suggest to do a Serie A next. Serie A has in my opinion the best quality/price.

Silver player guide would be also a nice addition.

  36. How’s is Oblak the best goalkeeper? All others you chose, beat him on REF and DIV…

    1. Oblak is a different type of goalkeeper. He has a decent REF and DIV but not as good as the other top-goalkeepers of this league. However, handling and positioning are also important and he is the second and the third best in the world in these attributes.

  37. Would you consider Busquets’ pace a problem as you say that pace is important for a defensive midfielder? I have Casemiro right now and not sure if Busquets is worth the upgrade.

    Great guide btw 🙂

      1. Have you tried Saul as a CDM – one of the few that’s got the work rates for the job
