IMPORTANT

In order to keep this guide simple and not too long, we divided it into two parts:
in the first one, we analyse the players’ cards and their attributes;
in the second one we show you how to choose the right players for your team (click here).

Introduction to FIFA 15 Ultimate Team Players

There are some things about players that not everyone knows. We wrote this guide to help gamers to understand why players are different from each other and what can change with the same players.

When you choose the players for your club, you should pay special attention to players’ attributes according to your play style, formation and preferences. It is also important keeping in mind that a player performance depends not only from their attributes but also by their fitness and chemistry (including his chemistry style).

Let’s take a closer look to how FIFA 15 Ultimate Team Players are made.

FIFA 15 Ultimate Team Players’ Attributes

One good thing about this game is that you can pick the players that best suit the needs of your team. This is made thanks to the attributes. It is what makes all players different from each other. A player without attributes is someone that doesn’t know how to play football.

Most of the gamers only pay attention to the six main attributes: pace, shooting, passing, dribbling, defending and physical (the goalkeepers have another six main attributes). It is not enough. They only show, in a general way, how a player is. It’s a kind of summary. To choose the right player you should look at his 30 attributes.

Here are all of the FIFA 15 Ultimate Team Players attributes.

Physical Attributes

In FUT 15, there are two physical attributes groups, mobility and power, each one with four:

    Acceleration
The higher the value, the shorter the time needed to reach maximum speed.
    Agility
How agile the player is while moving or turning.
    Reactions
How quickly a player responds to a situation.
    Sprint Speed
How fast the player runs while at top speed.
    Balance
The ability to maintain balance after a physical challenge.
    Jumping
The higher the value is the higher the player can jump.
    Stamina
Determines the rate at which a player will tire during a game.
    Strength
The higher the value, the more likely the player will win a physical challenge.

Technical Attributes

The FIFA 15 Ultimate Team Players have 16 technical attributes split in general skills, shooting, passing and defending groups:

    Ball Control
The higher the value, the less likely the ball is to bounce away from the player after controlling it.
    Curve
The higher the value the more curve/curl the player is capable of putting on the ball. E.g. Beckham free kick.
    Dribbling
A higher value means the player will be able to keep better possession of the ball whilst dribbling.
    Heading Accuracy
The heading accuracy of the player for either a pass or a shot.
    Finishing
The accuracy of shots using foot, inside the penalty area.
    Free Kick Accuracy
The higher the value the better the accuracy of a direct free kick on goal.
    Long Shots
The accuracy of shots from outside the penalty area.
    Penalties
The accuracy of shots from inside the penalty area.
    Shot Power
How hard the player hits the ball when taking a shot at goal.
    Volleys
The accuracy and power of volleys at goal.
    Crossing
How accurately the player crosses the ball.
    Passing (Long)
How well a player performs a long pass in the air to his team mate.
    Passing (Short)
How well a player performs a short / ground pass to his team mate.
    Marking
The ability to track and defend an opposing player.
    Tackle (Sliding)
The ability of the player to time sliding tackles so that they win the ball rather than give away a foul.
    Tackle (Standing)
The ability of the player to time standing tackles so that they win the ball rather than give away a foul.

Goalkeeping Attributes

In FUT 15, there are six goalkeeping attributes (they are showed on GK cards):

    GK Diving
The GK’s ability to make a save whilst diving through the air.
    GK Handling
How cleanly the GK catches the ball and does he hold on to it.
    GK Kicking
The length and accuracy of goal kicks, from out of the hands or on the ground.
    GK One-On-Ones
The ability to close down an opponent in one-on-one situations.
    GK Positioning
The GK’s ability to position himself correctly when saving shots.
    GK Reflexes

Work Rate

Work Rate is something really important in FIFA 15 Ultimate Team players. It says to you how often a player goes to defend or to attack.

The work rate measures how often a player attacks or defends

Every player has two different types of work rates: defensive and attacking. In both, defensive and attacking, you can have High, Medium or Low levels. Knowing the work rates of the FIFA 15 Ultimate Team players could be more important than most of gamers thinks.

To understand better what we are talking about, let’s look at three examples of how a player with the wrong work rate should persuade you get him off the team:

  • Imagine that you have a formation with 2 CB’s. If both CB’s have high attacking work rates it will means that sometimes nobody will be in your defence.
  • Imagine that you have a formation with only one ST. If he has low attacking work rate and high defensive work rate, it means that no one will be in the right place to shoot at goal.
  • Imagine that you have a formation with two CM’s and you want the one of them that helps the defence. You probably will need a player with high defensive work rate. If a player has high attacking work rate too, you should ensure that he has good stamina. Otherwise, in the end of the match he will be tired compromising the result of your match.

The right work rate depends of the formation you are using, the players’ attributes, their positions and even your play style. In FUT 15 you can not change the work rates. That’s why you should look carefully to work rates when you are choosing a player to your team.

You can see the work rates of your players, going to their Bio section.

Skill Stars and Weak Foot

Skills and Weak Foot are another special attributes that all the FIFA 15 Ultimate Team players have.

The Star Skill Moves measures the ability that a player has to perform technical moves. To all skill moves are assigned a number between 1 (least complex) and 5 (most complex). The players with higher skills, as Ronaldo or Neymar, are able to perform more complex moves.

If you often use these moves to confuse the opponents, you should pay attention to this attribute. Otherwise, you will not be able to perform all the skills that you want.

The Weak Foot measures the ability of a player to shoot with one foot as he does with his preferred foot.

All players have a preferred foot. Having 5 star weak foot means that weak foot shot is identical to there preferred foot shot. Having 1 star weak foot means that the player can only shoot with one foot.

Having players with high star weak foot means that you will probably score more goals as they shoot more easily.

Traits and Specialities

To make FIFA 15 players even more unique, EA assigns to them some traits. It helps to define a single identity for each player. The players are all different.

The trait assigned to a player can be a good thing but can also be a bad thing. These are the traits that you can find in FIFA 15 players:

    Argues with referee
    Avoids using weaker foot
    Diver
    Dives into tackles
    Early Crosser
    Finesse Shot
    Flair
    Giant Throw-in
    GK Long Throw
    GK Punches
    GK Up for Corners
    Injury Free
    Injury Prone
    Leader
    Long Passer
    Long Shot Taker
    Long Throw
    Loyal
    Outside Foot Shot
    Playmaker
    Power Free Kick
    Power Header
    Selfish
    Speed Dribbler
    Swerve Pass
    Team Player
    Tries to beat offside trap

It is easy to understand the importance of the traits according to our play style. However, these traits and specialities were created for other game modes, not for Ultimate Team. For that reason, we will not explain much more about this.

FIFA 15 Ultimate Team Players Cards

As you may imagine, the players’ cards are the most important FUT 15 cards. If your club has that type of cards, it means that you can control those players on the pitch.

You can buy hundreds of players for your club. Just buy their cards. There are many cards of the same player but you can only have one of each. That is, you can not have two cards of the same player. In fact, you can have two cards of the same player in your club if each one have different clubs (player was transferred) or have an IF version and you place them in different squads.

You may learn about the different players’ cards here but now we will explain what you can find on a FIFA 15 Ultimate Team players’ card. It has a lot of information that you must pay attention to improve your chances of victory.

Rating and Attributes

To know how good a player is, you shouldn’t look to his rating. It only shows, generally, how popular he is, allowing you to compare him with the others. The overall rating is NOT an average or an reflection of the all attributes. It isn’t derived from the actual technical, mental and physical attributes. It represents the players’ reputation. EA Sports assigned the ratings to the players according to the league that they play, the club, the performances and the role they have in their teams. Sometimes, FIFA 15 Ultimate Team players with lower ratings could be better choices.

Depending on their ratings, players may belong to one of the following groups:
Bronze, for ratings up to 64;
Silver, for ratings between 65 and 74;
Gold, for ratings between 75 and 99.

The overall rating doesn’t show how good a player is. It represents how popular he is.

The rating is also important because it is responsible for the star rating system of teams. The star rating of a squad is a representation of the overall rating of each player in the squad. This is calculated from the players in the starting line-up and on the subs bench. It is a requirement for some tournaments and it is used too in matchmaking.

Here are the star rating ranges:

    5 stars, to overall rating > 80
4.5 stars, to overall ratings between 77 and 80
4 stars, to overall ratings between 74 and 76
3.5 stars, to overall ratings between 70 and 73
3 stars, to overall ratings between 66 and 69
2.5 stars, to overall ratings between 64 and 65
2 stars, to overall ratings between 62 and 63
1.5 stars, to overall ratings between 60 and 61
    1 star, to overall ratings < 60

If you want to know how a player is, you should look to his attributes. The six main ones (pace, shooting, passing, dribbling, defence and physical) of FIFA 15 Ultimate Team players give you the idea of how they play. But it is not enough. If you want to know exactly what you could expect from them, you should look to all their attributes and not the main six. In this case there is the exception of goalkeepers who have on their cards all the stats that determine their performances.

Each attribute ranges between 1 and 99 (99 correspond to the perfection). Such information is written on the all players’ cards. Depending on your play style, your formation and the attributes of the others players in the squad, it may be a good option to choose players that are better in some specific attributes. For example, a team that often uses crossing for heading should have a striker with good heading (included in physical).

Position

A crucial information when you are planning your squad is the preferred position of the players. You can choose to place the goalkeeper as a striker but, as you may expect, the performance will be very poor. You should try to respect the player card detail about his preferred position. Otherwise, you will be damaging his individual chemistry and the chemistry of the team.

Cards of the same player may have different positions. If you have a card whose position does not fit into the formation of your team, you may have to make one of the following:

  • Trade the card on the market by another identical but with the correct position;
  • Lose a few points of squad chemistry and keep the player adapted to the new position;
  • Buy and use training cards that modify the position showed on the player’s card.

Fitness

The performance of a player on the pitch depends on his attributes, his chemistry, team’s chemistry and his fitness.

It is very important to keep your players with high fitness. As it is easy to understand, the fitness depends of the playing time, the effort spent in the match, and of the injuries that eventually the player may suffer. The fitness level is printed on the player’s cards. It is a number that ranges between 1 and 99.

It is important to pay attention to the fitness because a group of players with good chemistry will have no use if their physical condition is poor. To fix this, you may make them rest in some matches, providing a rotation of your squad, or buy and use fitness cards.

During the matches, players can get injured and being out of the following matches. On the players’ cards you can find the details about how many time the player will be out and what kind of injury he has. Both are important for you since you will be able to know how to manage your squad and how you can speed up the player’s recovery.

The global healing cards can reduce the healing time up to four matches. However, if you know if the injury was on the foot, leg, knee, arm, upper body, head or back, you will be able to buy and apply specific healing cards for these ills and reduce the downtime by up to five matches.

Contracts

Every match that a player plays is a contract that he spends. The only way to prevent a player from running out of contracts and being unable to play, apart from not using him, is buying contract cards. That is why it is recommended that you save some coins in order to being able to buy contract cards and keep your players available.

The contract card is the only consumable card that you really have to buy in order to play. That’s why it is so important.

The number of contracts is also expressed on the player’s card as a number between 0 and 99.

Chemistry Styles

When a player is released in a card, his chemistry style is basic (BAS), the starter style. It means that all his attributes are improved in the same way (one point if chemistry is the higher possible). If you want to adjust the players attributes to your squad needs, you can apply a chemistry style card. In the active squad menu, you have a visual indicator (little green arrow) next to the stats of each player showing which ones will be affected by the chemistry and how much will be the potential chemistry boost.

The Chemistry Styles allow you to let choose what stats are changed but not how much it will change. It depends of your chemistry. If you get individual chemistry 10, you will get the higher improvement possible in the stats you chosen.

Always look to all In Game Stats and not only for basic attributes

When you buy a player, look very well to which chemistry style he has. If he doesn’t have the chemistry style you want, you can apply him another chemistry style card or buy another card of the same player with the right style.

Chemistry

Expressed on the player card as a number between 0 and 10, the chemistry evaluates how well he identifies himself with his team mates, the manager and the team. It is a factor that helps the game play by interacting with the familiarity of the players with the positioning, the relation with the other players and the manager.

When you buy a player to your squad, you should check if he will get a good chemistry (we recommend to get, at least, individual chemistry 8).

You can learn everything about chemistry in our guide, clicking here.

More Details

A player card give you even more details. You can check the biographical details about the player, his statistics and the item details.

The players’ cards have some biographical information about them that has a merely informative interest. In addition to a photograph of the player’s face, it also includes his name, surname, nickname, nationality, club and country where he plays, date of birth, height, foot preference and work rates.

On the FIFA 15 Ultimate Team Players’ cards you can also see some statistics about performance of those players. In particular, you can check how many matches he played, how many goals he scored, how many assists he made and how many yellow and red cards were shown to him.

It is also possible to check three details of a specific player card: the purchased date, the price of this acquisition and the cumulative number of owners.

Use an Injured Player
Put him in the reserves (on the right of substitutes) and wait until he recovers
OR select the player, choose ‘apply consumable’ and apply him the healing card

FIFA 15 Ultimate Team Players Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Where can I find all the attributes of my players ?
A: As you know, the players cards only show the six main attributes. To know all of them simply start a FUT 15 match, pause the game and select “Team Management”. Then, view that player’s attributes. Another option is to use FUT databases.

Q: Can I have more than one card of the same player stored in my club ?
A: You can have several cards of the same player but only in the transfer list. To have more than one card of the same player in your club, you need to place each one in different squads and they must be from different clubs (the player has moved to another club). You can also have a NIF and a IF card of the same player in different teams.

Q: How do I change the work rates of my players ?
A: In FUT 15 it is not possible.

Q: Getting a high/high work rate is a good thing ?
A: Usually not. It means that your players will be often out of position. They want to attack but they also want to defend. It depends of your formation, play style and the player position.

Q: I can not see the work rates or the assists in the Bio ?
A: It is only available in the console.

Q: I don’t use skills. Do I need players with high star skills ?
A: No. If you don’t perform skills, it doesn’t matter the star skills of your players. However, our advice is that you should learn, at least, one skill movement. It doesn’t need to be a 5 star skill movement.

Q: A gold player is always better than a silver one ?
A: Usually yes. But not always. What makes the player gold is his rating. What really matters to know if a player is good or not, is his attributes. Some silver players can have better attributes than gold players. The same happens with bronze/silver players.

Q: It is possible for a player to get a card of a higher level ?
A: It is not very common but may happen. It is only possible if a player already has the higher rating from his level and gets two IF cards.

  1. Sometimes i dont believe in the chemistry cards or if upgrades. It seems a psychological thing to me. But of course i cannot do without believe in that :)) when you enter team management during a match even if you have an if player which has different overall rating and position, you see him on the bench with his original position and overalls. I.e. Rooney. If rooney is cm and has 87 overall. When you put him in bench and enter to team management during the match you ll see his position is st and overall is 86. What do you say pals?

  2. I still don’t know if there is any benefit in Chemistry Styles.

If I have a player with 90 shooting, and 90 pace, and apply a Hunter card – is there an estimate of what the shooting and pace is boosted to? Does each arrow count as a point?

      1. I might have to get a stop watch and time a player running half the pitch with and without a pace boost hehe

  3. You spent a hell but the squad making seems hard job for you… Best of luck friend

  4. Hello Rodrigo. I would like to ask you for a help with my squad. I almost made it, but can’t find the right CM to make it complete. Can you please help me. Thank you.
    5-3-2
    Suarez – Aguero
    Modric – ??? – Y. Toure
    Marcelo – Ramos – Boateng – Kompany – Walker

  5. Nice Article Rodrigo, but it should have been released with the release of game itself. It seems to be a newbie friendly article.

    1. Hi.
      We agree with you.
However, the problem is that we published many articles when the game was released and we know that most of people didn’t read them because they have many stuff to read. That’s why we prefer to publish a few articles later, like this one. Since Xmas brings many new gamers, it is a good time to publish it.
